Mary Jo Hansen, 87 of Veblen, SD passed away Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Elim Nursing Home in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Veblen, SD, with Pastor Harold Watrous officiating and burial will be in Palestine Cemetery, rural Veblen. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at the Frank Family Funeral Home in Lidgerwood, and Sunday one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are: Mary’s grandsons: Chad Hansen & Mitchell Herman and her grandson-in-laws: Jim Weissenfluh, Shawn Lippitt, Jeff Carstensen, Clayton Vickers, Ryan Morrell & Aaron Leroux. Organist will be Karen Hornseth with special music by Joan Anderson and Coleen Halverson.
Mary Jo Hanson was born June 4, 1921 in Hillhead, South Dakota. The daughter of Torger and Amanda (Johnson) Heggeset. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Hillhead, SD. On October 27, 1945 she was united in marriage to John Hansen in Veblen, SD. After their marriage they farmed south of Veblen, SD.
Mary enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, shaking dice and traveling. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Veblen, SD.
She is survived by four children: Robert Hansen, Houston, TX, Rich (Pat) Hansen, Big Stone City, SD, Judy Good, Maple Grove, MN and Nancy (Rick) Herman, Veblen, SD, a sister: Vera Norby, Lidgerwood, ND, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband: John, parents: Torger and Amanda Heggeset, sister: Hilda Walden, a brother: Emil Heggeset and two son-in-laws: David Storbakken and Gary Good.
